Telecommunication and data communication system comprised of onboard sensor units within a transportation vehicle, one or more network gateways, a central host, and associated operating software for remotely controlling, diagnosing, analyzing and monitoring the operation and functionality of the transportation vehicle over an information network via transmitting and receiving data regarding the transportation vehicle that has been accumulated over time between successive transmissions from/to the onboard sensor units to the one or more gateways when the transportation vehicle is in the vicinity to one of the gateways, and forwarding the collected data via the information network, which is a combination of one or more of wireless, local and global networks, to the central host for further information processing, analysis and reporting; structural parts for the aforementioned equipment.
