Intravascular stent placement may be guided by intravascular imaging, however there is no clear methodology of how to apply intravascular imaging for this purpose. MLD MAX is a mnemonic that outlines the exact steps to successfully utilize intravascular imaging for intravascular stent placement. M - Morphology (assessment of the artery wall tissue characteristics). L- Length (length of stent required to cover the vascular narrowing). D - Diameter (diameter required to maximize the flow area inside the stent. M-Medial Dissection (medial dissection, or tear, in the vessel should be addressed at the edges of the stent). A - Apposition (the stent should be apposed, or in contact, with the artery wall so as to not disturb flow. X - eXpansion (the stent should be fully expanded, pushing the material causing the blockage out of the way, maximizing flow)
