Gunshot detection system for locating the position of a shooter, mountable to fixed objects and vehicles, and wearable by an individual, comprised of microphones for detecting gun shots, computer processors and software for analog-to-digital conversion and signal processing which gathers "crack and/or bang" audio and calculating shooter location, internal sensors that determine compass heading and Global Positioning System coordinates of the shooter along with artificial horizon and gyroscopes and a three-dimensional motion sensor, memory storage for recording information about the shots fired and small-arms weapon and round-type look-up tables, input/output connections for loading software and off-loading recorded shot data and information about system health and networking, and an external display wearable by the user or a personal computer-based display
