SunSpot is a web-enabled photovoltaic (PV) solar energy monitoring system developed by Sun Power and Geothermal Energy Inc; that uses integrated hardware and software to provide real-time information on a PV system's actual energy production; The SunSpot monitoring system, which is accessible over the Internet or hard-wired to a SunSpot-branded kiosk, provides live displays of AC power production, solar irradiance, wind speed, and ambient temperature conditions; These are all included in the SunSpot monitoring system and displayed on the SunSpot kiosk screen; In addition to being able to view the standard information listed above, a facilities manager or anyone with the proper authorization can use the combined SunSpot software and hardware system to monitor individual PV system inverter performance; The inverter is a critical component of each solar PV system; Live inverter information is provided by the DC power production from individual PV arrays combined with the AC power production from individual inverters; SunSpot data is accessible remotely by Sun Power and Geothermal Energy; When pre-set alarm conditions are met, Sun Power can use SunSpot to troubleshoot an entire installed PV system, pinpoint the problem area, and, if necessary, send out technicians to correct the problem, minimizing the downtime of the PV installation
