Collision avoidance system for a mine namely a magnetic field generator used to generate magnetic fields positioned on a machine in the mine, a magnetic field detector used to measure magnetic fields positioned on another machine in the mine or a PAD (personal alarm device) worn by an individual in the mine, and a controller which uses the change in position over time of the machine having the magnetic field generator in the mine relative to the machine or PAD having the magnetic field detector in the mine to prevent collisions between the machine, the other machine, and the individual wearing a PAD (personal alarm device) in the mine.
